Our philosophies are quite simple:
- We feel that each and every goaltender we coach deserves high caliber coaching with compassion.
- We feel that the role of the goaltender coach can be divided into four categories:
- Teacher - We feel it is our responsibility to educate each student on the various technical, tactical, physical, emotional and mental components involved in high performance goaltending.
- Evaluator - We feel that the goaltender's performance must be carefully monitored if learning is to take place. Each goaltender must come to recognize their own strengths and weaknesses. They must be able to develop their own game plan for success. The Centre's objective is to aid the goaltender in this process of self-discovery. Our on-ice and off-ice evaluation procedures enable us to develop a systematic program to eliminate any weaknesses in the goalie's performance and to capitalize on strengths to improve performance.
- Motivator - The goaltender coach must be able to motivate the goaltender to play hard in every game. The coach also must be capable to get his goaltenders to work hard at improving their fundamentals during practice sessions and during the off-season. The Goalie Centre provides each student with a positive and supportive atmosphere whereby they can learn the necessary physical and mental techniques for high caliber performance. The Centre uses a wide range of means of communication to make sure the goaltender understands the feedback about their performance and is able and willing to act on it. The feedback is always positive, specific, immediate and constructive. The Centre provides each student with numerous opportunities for fun and enjoyment. Students learn how to motivate themselves so that they are able to keep working hard in the face of boredom, fatigue, pain, and/or the desire to do other things.
- Innovator - We feel that an excellent goaltender coach should have a reservoir of drills and/or the ability to create drills that will develop and improve the goaltender's fundamentals. The Centre has developed the following programs to maximize the goaltender's strengths and to identify and correct any potential weaknesses that could be detrimental to his/her game performance.
